Dr. Eisner obtained his medical degree in 1998 from the University of Calgary and went on to complete his Family Medicine Residency program in 2000, also at the University of Calgary. He became active in the Calgary Hospitalist program in 2002.
From 2010 to 2017, Dr. Eisner was the Authorized Representative for the Calgary Hospitalist ARP and Chair of the Calgary Hospitalist Governance Association. Dr. Eisner successfully led the Calgary Hospitalist ARP through a period of rapid growth that saw the program expand into rehabilitative care, Supportive Living and Long Term Care. His major accomplishments involve developing a framework for principled decision making with respect to expansion and innovation within the Hospitalist program, the development of a highly successful Quality Improvement Program as well as a strong leadership development program.
In 2011, Dr. Eisner became Chief for the Section of Medical Inpatients, Department of Family Medicine, University of Calgary, a position he held until 2020. During this time, Dr. Eisner worked with the Department of Psychiatry to develop and implement the Psychiatry Primary Care program.
In 2015 Dr. Eisner became the Medical Lead for the Provincial Hospitalist Program. The mandate of this program is to develop a coordinated approach to the design, implementation, evaluation and funding of hospitalist programs in Alberta.
