Biography

Dr. Mena Gewarges is currently a clinical fellow in cardiac critical care at Toronto General Hospital (TGH). She completed her undergraduate, graduate, and medical degree at the University of Toronto, as well as her residency training in internal medicine and adult cardiology. Inspired by her graduate training in sociology, she is the co-founder of the Diversity and Inclusion in Cardiology Education (DICE) mentorship program for students who identify as Black or Indigenous. During her advanced heart failure/transplantation fellowship in 2022-2023, she traveled to the James and Hudson’s Bay communities of Peawanuck, Moose Factory, and Moosonee to provide heart failure and general cardiac care to the Cree First Nations population of patients living on reserve. Her evolving expertise is in using digital health tools, virtual care platforms, and remote patient management strategies to complement in-person clinical care to provide access that patients in these communities require and deserve.
